Pens ownership scares my when they gave Burke a job, especially as President. Now if you want a guy who believe his duties is to be on TV, telling everyone how brilliant he is, well the Pens got the right guy.

Yeah the McCann trade is weird, did they really think Seattle would take Carter, that seems unlikely, guess they got that prospect back at least but who knows when he'll ever crack the lineup, maybe they don't think McCann will ever live up to or be worth the raise he would've got so they cut ties now before they got to that point, that's all I can think of as to why they made that trade, he seemed like he should've been a lock to keep and protect.

There is no way I'm trading all of that for sinko.
His injury issues are a problem. 3 shoulder surgeries in 3 years. No.

I could see Seattle selecting him and taking a gamble on him because he could be an elite forward, if not he's on IR so there is little risk when you get him for free.
But there is 0 chance I'm giving up assets for that.


I don't have an issue with them moving McCann. I do think it's possibly part of a larger deal though.
Either way McCann was not getting it done. The playoffs were the last straw. 6 games what 1 assists or something. He got outplayed by Gaudreau on the RW.
It's not like anyone can say he had no help. He did. Both Carter and Gaudreau played very well that series. But he was a no show.....again.
It was far to common of a theme with him. Change has to happen somewhere. I hope that change is to bring in a tougher more skilled winger in Poulin. at 3LW.

Honestly, it's very hard to lay blame on a lot of this team. They had an inexperienced goalie. Who will learn from the mistakes.
They had their top 2 lines not perform well. But you had Malkin out there playing on an injured knee.
They need to do better as far as staying on their skates, which means they need to add some size. They also need to be more physical on the blue line and actually stand people up.
But a large part of that is on Sully and his bs version of hockey. Something has to give.
Truth is there should have been a sit down at this point with management and the coach. The conversation has to revolve around changing the system. Which clearly doesn't work.
They need to stop the dump and chase which has low success rates and carry the puck in more. They need to stop playing on the boards and move that puck around cycling more. They have tried to build this system of Sid grinding out with the puck. But it's hard to win that game when the biggest person on the line is 5'11. It has to change if the first line is going to be Jake, Sid and Rust.
They need to change their team defense. They need to stand guys up at the blue line instead of letting them skate in. They need to play the man more than the puck The goal in game 5 or 6 (I forget which one) was a huge example of that. He just skated right down the boards and right to the net. No one flattened him and put him into the boards. It cost them the game. Two quick passes and it was over.
That's not on the player as much as it's on the coach. There needs to be some changes. If we can't get those changes, they are going to be a 1st round exit again no matter who you bring in. Because the other team will always know they can skate right in and no one will lay a finger on them.
The other teams have no problem making that play on our 5'10 wingers and making them pay the price for going down that wall and taking them out the play. But Sully can't seem to figure out that Hockey is suppose to be played that way.
I think this year is it for him. Should have been last year to be honest. But this year has to be the final straw with him. If he refuses to change. By midseason he needs to be removed. As we don't need another wasted year.

McCann was nothing special at all. He could have great analytics all he wants, but has been an absolute no show in the playoffs every year. Plus his injuries and inconsistent play didnt help either. McCann isn't putting a team over the top to win the cup

This is why analytics gets dumped on by so many people. You say that he has "elite analytics" yet at best he is a 2nd line player. More realistically a 3rd liner. You can use analytics to pull some stat out of left field to say he was the best at this or that, but at the end of the day, he was traded for a B level prospect who projects to be a bottom 6 forward if he even makes it to the NHL. Then the team that got him didn't even bother to protect him. Why make such a fuss about the penguins not protecting him when a second team also didn't protect him? He obviously isn't that significant of a player to make the difference between winning and losing.
