Everyone knows it will take more than that for just a rental Shattenkirk. You're looking at a 1st and a really good prospect minimum. The Blues don't need a career AHL'r in Hrivik, or a RHD in Klein, or a 3rd line winger in Grabner.

Even if the Blues win every game from now till the TDL I still believe Shattenkirk will get traded. I just don't see a fit with the Rangers. The pieces it would take to trade for Shattenkirk are probably Miller or Stepan and I don't think the Rangers brass will part with them.

I think the best fit is with NYR, because as of now Girardi is top right defeceman. Shattenkirk could be the rare example of a piece that puts a bubble contender into true contender territory. If it really is a first rounder they're asking for, the Rangers wouldn't do it. They haven't picked in the top 30 since Brady Skjei in 2012.

Also, I find it hard to call Grabner a third line winger. He's leading the Rangers in goals, and this year, leading the NHL in even strength goals.

Yandle got a 1st, 2nd, & Duclair when dealt. He had a year left on his deal but that didn't help much in the end. He was still a rental for the Rangers. Shattenkirk > Yandle.

Shattenkirk will be the most sought after player at the TDL. He's the best defensive PP QB in the league and the stats back that up. He's not on the level of a Pietrangelo defensively but he's a lot better than Yandle. He's solid defensively overall. It would be robbery if he didn't return a 1st + + depending on the +'s. Or a really good center like Tyler Johnson etc...

We seem to forget that he is a rental. Yandle was not a rental. Grabner is 3rd in the league in goals, so how does that mean a 3rd liner? Grabner also does not get any PP time so if he did, he can have 30+ goals. They may want Klein just because they are in the playoff hunt and he can help this season playoff wise. Imo, I would trade Zucc before Grabner in a deal but I would try and protect Grabner. He's a steal at 1.65m even if he dips next year and has 20 goals. I still would rather the Rangers give up Zucc in a deal for a guy like Trouba,Vatanen, Hamilton, Montour etc and sign Shatty 7-1.

Grabner is 29 years old. His best year in the league is 52 points. The next best season is this year with 35 points. That is the definition of inconsistency. Rangers fans may think it would be a good deal with Grabner as the center piece in a deal for Shattenkirk but it would only be a good deal for the Rangers lol

The Blues don't need wings. They don't need RHD either. They're greatest need is a real center for Tarasenko. Shattenkirk isn't going to return a true #1 C but a player like Tyler Johnson or a Henrique would do wonders.

The Blues have too many LW's in Fabbri, Steen, Schwartz, & Perron. Perron has been playing RW all year. Grabner is having a little better year than Perron but I doubt he'd push Perron to the 3rd line. It's really a moot point because Grabner just isn't a need. If you were the GM of the Blues would you trade Shattenkirk, the most sought after player at the TDL, for Grabner, a player that doesn't fill a need??
