Description
More of an exercise to show how much work the Bs have to do to build up their bottom 6. Guys like Studnika, Lauko, Beecher and Hall need to start getting NHL reps now or else this is what next year might look like. Maybe DeBrusk rebounds and stays (I know that the Bs would be unlikely to let 4 first rounders just walk, but again this was to show what the bottom 6 COULD look like). Additionally, if the team wants to keep McAvoy and Pasta and sign a top C to replace Bergeron (who could very easily retire after this year), they need to replace some of these $2-3 million players with guys on their ELC. At some point guys will stop taking discounts and every dollar counts.

Barkov gets more than that on the open market IMO

Barkov gets more
Mcavoy probably clocks in at about 11.
I would be shocked if Bergeron retires.

I agree that some of the young guys need to start making an impact - Studnicka/Frederic (add a little more offense) Lauko are the ones I point to, they’ve all produced at the AHL level. Beecher going back to Michigan, Hall had a tough luck year in the A, needs more seasoning.

Barkov not leaving Miami. He wants to stay and they want to keep him. He will be extended…soon.

Again, the $ is secondary. If Bergeron comes back for the same $ the Bs have plenty to sign 73 and add elsewhere. I would love it if he did come back as he is my favorite Boston athlete of all time. I also wouldn’t be surprised at all if this was his last year. With all of the injuries and concussions that he’s had at some point it just becomes too much.

But swap Bergeron for Barkov and it still means that they either keep spending $3-4 mil for guys to play 15 minutes a night on their 3rd line or throw the kids into the fire and see what happens. They tried that at LD last year and it didn’t work.

I’m totally rambling here, but this post was a question about what to expect from the next group of forwards and when we can expect it. I was really hoping to get a look at Studnika at 3C this year and some sneak peeks at Lauko and Hall. With the free agent signings they’ve done, there’s less of a chance of that happening. And maybe that’s for the best. Maybe Haula, Folino, Lazar, etc all play well and depth becomes the team’s strong suit. I hope so. There’s a reason Sweeney has an office in the Garden and I’m posting this from my deck.
