Description
Personally I'd rather have Trouba over Reilly, but the Jets could use another good young LHD. Toronto also throws around some picks to bolster their depth in the push for the playoffs.

How many goalies do the Leafs (or any team) need? Trouba or Reilly logistically makes sense, at least on the ice. Leafs have Reilly for five years guaranteed, while Trouba is only guaranteed three years. But since the trade is just a lateral move, of players and positions, I'm sure the Leafs have no interest. Leafs can upgrade their defence in the offseason without giving up Reilly.

Sorry, double post. It's true the Leafs could wait until the offseason to upgrade their D, but I feel like Trouba is the better player of the two, and a RHD to boot, which seems to be at a premium in the league. If the Jets were willing to do this deal 1-for-1 I think the Leafs should do it.

Maybe value wise its fair, but what message does this send to other players? Rielly is emerging as a leader and top blueliner in his own right, and he's got an amazing contract...

I understand what you're going for and I think logistically it might make sense given that Gardiner could easily be a top pairing defenseman on the left side, but Rielly is immovable
