Year 2 after the initial Hertl trade (see link above):

Re-sign Hertl to 5x7.5M (not sure on value but assume this would be in the ballpark and if he likes it here after the trade and they're successful could see him extending.

Re-sign Troch to 5x6M - this isn't likely if Hertl extends but just wanted to honestly see how it would work out. Staal comes off the books the following year so Troch could slot into 3C situationally and play wing on second line. Again this would only be if he really wants to say and play for RBA which he's made a point of calling out regularly during his time here. Can also find an FA top 6 winger around this AAV. Will likely make another scenario with a winger over Troch assuming Hertl extends or just play out the following season with a winger instead of Troch.

Extended Bear, brought Cole back and let TDA go - hoping that Sellgren is ready next year.

Gave Necas a bridge deal at 5.5M which should be reasonable. Jarvis and Drury should be ready to get some minutes next year.

At that cap hit, I have questions. That hampers the team badly in the long term

Relax, there's a 95% chance he re-signs in SJ.

For who? Hertl?

Not really - go look at part 3. It doesn't really hamper anything - Staal and some other smaller deals like Fast come off the following year. Will have plenty of deserving guys up on their ELCs to fill in the roster and will have a good chunk of money beyond that to make some significant upgrades. Even when Aho Turbo Pesce are up the following season, they'll be able to afford extensions for all of them if they want to.

The issue is then you're relying on kids... that's ALWAYS a bad idea. They're complete question marks.

You’re not relying on kids - your core is still Svech Aho Necas turbo hertl troch in your forward group. You’re giving an opportunity for a guy like Jarvis and Drury to start chipping in and potentially playing with other talented players this year and next. Plus with that philosophy rookies and young players would never get an opportunity to play anywhere, that line of thinking doesn’t make sense or resonate.
