Description
Ottawa get a very experienced (in regular season play) pivot in Tavares and the move shows Tkachuk and the young guns that they are willing to spend money. Tavares has 4 years remaining and will be gone before our young core comes off their bridge contracts - adding him will not fudge the rebuild. Toronto creates some much needed cap space by getting rid of the $11M hit for a Tavares at age 31 through 34. They add 24 y/o Colin White who can play pivot or RW and (calling it now) is about to have a solid bounce back season. The cap they clear would allow them to improve their HORRIFIC D or nab Cizikas or Zajac for a year for pivot depth.

Bozak gets a one-year deal and starts with Tavares and Stützle. Hopefully they click and he pads his stats so we can move him at the deadline for a decent pick, shift Connor Brown to the 2nd line and bring in one of our many Belleville wingers to fill the open spot.

Logan Brown gets a legit, low pressure, shot playing with 2 players he knows very well. He and Nick Paul had a very successful season together in Belleville and I'm no fan of the "Logan Brown needs to play with talented top 6 players to succeed" pitch. If he wants that spot he can earn it.

I feel like this team could potentially make it into the playoffs and potentially knock Toronto out in the first round because that's what God wants.

I don't know, I saw the one from @jake6ix_deep that was Tavares for the TBL 2nd and it got me wondering...

tavares would never wave his NMC for ottawa. he wants to win now. Toronto thinks they can (but they won’t) and he won’t leave the city in his final decent years of his career to go to a rebuilding team.

He knows Toronto is not a contender, and he knows there is no CURRENT contending team that could take him and still be cap compliant without giving up a piece/pieces that would make them LESS of a contender. But I get that he's a hometown boy and would likely rather fail in Toronto than go to Ottawa where he'd have a legit shot by 22-23 / 23-24. Even with NO TRADES, next season Sanderson and Bernard-Docker join our D core and Grieg and Boucher join the forwards.... ohhhhhh baby.... Tavares doesn't see it then he truly belongs in a Leaf jersey!

If Toronto wants to move on from Tavares, the only way he accepts to move his NMC to go to Ottawa is because he wants to be geographically close to "home". And as it's the case with the vast majority of players, he also probably wants to win so he has to think they'd get much closer with him.

With Tavares, Sens would probably have a better shot at winning a playoff round than the Leafs. Yes, Ottawa has been rebuilding but the depth they have been developing is stacked at every position except maybe Center and RD as it depends on several things (like if Stutzle eventually transitions to center, how good JBD will be, will they extend Zub?, etc). They are on the verge of breaking out as demonstrated in the 2nd half of last season. Actually, after the first 15 games, they were 15th OA in P% the rest of the season. If they didn't have such a poor start, they would have been the ones playing the Leafs in the first round
