I think you need to take the emotion out of the decision. We have a player who hasn't reached a PPG pace after three years in the league, and has been prone to injury. His physical stature means he's likely to only play an average of 65 regular season games a year, so what's his peak production? 85 to 95 points in his best year? Likely 70 to 80 on average, and hurt a lot. Does that sound like a player you want to commit 10 million plus per to for long term?
If they are smart, and someone does offer sheet him, they'll take the draft picks. They can shore up at centre with Miller over the short term, will have at least 5 first round picks over the next 3 years, and the next two draft years are expected to be deep in talent. Let someone else gamble 10 mil per on him.
But. Petey said he wants to win. I guess we'll see how much. You know, Tom Brady leaves money on the table so his team can pay his linemen to keep him safe and productive. Russell Wilson had to be the highest paid QB when he signed his deal, and ended up the most sacked QB in the league since the inked dried on the contract. Just sayin'.
