Description
If we were to format the roster as follows, we would be cap complain as well as lock down valuable RFA years with Petey. The biggest mistake to make would be giving term to Petey while bridging Quinn. Quinn is cheaper and thus, would be able to sign for a max term type of deal; whereas Petey could sign the bridge deal and earn a big pay day with proper term on his next deal when the cap rises - which is fine, that will be a non-issue. Benning knows this, which is why this is what we will most likely do, except the figures are where we are currently not aligned. Chiasson is a good veteran winger, but Lockwood has shown that he could hold his own thus far - making that signing virtually obsolete. I like Demers as an FA option, but I think Woo has finally been showing glimpses of being a capable depth RD and Schenn is showing he could temporarily slot in as our 6th D on a shared basis with Brad Hunt (who can run LD and RD). In terms of who would get waived when Sutter and Motte return I would say MacEwen is the odd man out. Pearson starts on the 2nd line, but gets moved to the 3rd if Podz and Hogz show they can consistently produce with Bo and CG

I like that a lot, we could use a defensive minded RD. I also think we might take a flier on Lauzon and/or Borgen when/if they get waived by Seattle (they have 12 defensemen on their roster rn). What a great time for Hamonic to consider retirement!

For a 3 year bridge on Pettersson, 9 million seems a bit rich to me.

I think 7 million x 3 gets it done.

It's what Matthew Tkachuk and Matt Barzal have.

That's what the team has been offering him. He views himself a peg above both Tkachuk and Barzal. Unless we trade for another top 6 F/Top 4 D calibre player, he will not take what he views as a pay cut. It's unfortunate, but I don't view it as an overpayment if he stays healthy. If anything, I'd pay him 15M just to end the Montreal fan made teams with him getting offer-sheeted almost every time (65% or so of the armchair gm teams for MTL)

If 7x3 was enough it would already be done. Personally I think that's pretty close to a fair bridge deal for Petey.
