Description
RE: Price the Montréal Canadiens can either:

1. Pay him 10M per year for .910% goaltending

2. Pay him $9M per year to not play (buyout)

3. Pay him $5M to not play and get assets for him

Option 1 is not great bob, option 2 is a non starter but option 3 becomes more and more compelling as I think about it... they're stuck with his $ anyways

Why not reduce it by half and get assets back?

And now that they're rebuilding... golly 😕

At 6M, Price is a very intriguing option for a number of contending teams. I could imagine a team like the Wild or Oilers being very interested in him if they plan on a long run. I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if they pulled in a package including someone of Yamamoto's skill as well as an early pick.

By this logic we’re paying $5 million no matter what. So we can either pay him $5 million to play for us, or trade him. In which case we’d want him just as much if not more than Edmonton because he means so much to this team, so there’s 0 reason to trade him.

even at half price i don't think price is that appealing. his numbers are down and inconsistent. he's having both physical and mental health issues. id think most teams should pass.

if the habs buy out price next offseason its only $7m for 2 years, $6m for 2 years, and $500k for 4 years. habs should just use those $6m-$7m years to rebuild. the 500k is inconsequential.

Price is staying in Montreal because there are no other good options, we aren't retaining long term, we aren't buying him out, and he definitely won't waive

It’s way way too hard to judge fair value on a trade when there’s that many pieces in play. Just too many different perspectives need to consider. At the end of the day biggest declining factor is price contract even with retention it has term which very much complicates the offseason rather stick with Kosk and all those expiring depth contracts.
