They may, or may not. But SM is playing in a system that is not suited to him, and is a bottom six guy for the moment. If he rebounds, or Calgary views him as part of the future, then no deal from Calgary. It’s all in their plans.

Agreed and likely the Avs let Rust go after a cup run but not too much risk. Bowers could be a decent bottom-middle 6 forward (upside) but has had injury problems, so there's a risk/reward element there for PIT. That said if they lose Rust anyway, through not being able to afford him then Bowers is something for nothing.
