Uh, no? Lucic with 2.4M retention puts him at the 2.85M cap hit you see above. For what he provides that is a fair deal. On the other hand, Calgary is now paying over 6M cap to DeBrusk who isn't even worth 4M. Calgary is already insanely deep at LW so DeBrusk is at best a 3rd line winger on the Flames. Furthermore there is zero chance Calgary qualifies him since they have 4 way more important free agent contracts next summer so he is at most a rental with the added bonus of still paying Lucic to play somewhere else for an entire year.

You're a Leafs fan no? How many years in a row have you looked at that 1.2M Kessel cap hit and said "man wish we had that cap space right now." Flames are 1st in the West so retaining on a contract of a player that is core to their teams leadership to bring in a player thats requested a trade is terrible for the locker room and really doesn't help them compete
