Intriguing offer towards Turbo, but de Haan really can’t be the second piece unless there is retention on one of them, preferably DeCat. De Haan is decent, but the canes don’t really have the cap space for him, let alone the roster spot. At best he plays and rotates with Cole, but at worst he is sent to the AHL or is just a healthy scratch.
How about a counter offer of Turbo and a 2024 first round pick for DeBrincat with say, 50% retention and a 2023 2nd round pick, and DeBrincat comes with a favorable team friendly long term extension in place when his contract runs out. If you include de Haan in this trade, he will need to have some retention as well just to make cap work. If need be, we could go to a third party broker team who would be willing to help with retention. A team like Seattle, Arizona, or Buffalo might be willing to help out for the right price.
As I see it, to pry Turbo back out of Carolina, it will require a drastic overpay. Turbo is one of top guys, plays amazingly on the power play and the kill, plus has amazing chemistry with Aho and the rest of the team. He is an elite playmaker who has a lethal shot when he wants to shoot, but I am sure you already know that. With your proposed trade, you are asking the Canes to take on 10mil in cap while sending out about 5mil. The cap won’t work like that, so retention would have to be included.
