Description
For the most part I feel like these trades are in the realm of possibility. The only of the bunch I am unsure of is the Vancouver trade. What does it take to get Garland? Drouin is a 50-60 pt. player who needs a change of scenery and would be retained to at least 4 mil/yr, Norlinder is an offensive LD prospect who many consider to be of mid-high value and the second rounder would most likely be close to the first round in 2023 if this season is any indicator. Maybe I am delusional but all this together seems like decent value. Whether or not Vancouver has use for those assets is another story.

As far as Petry goes, I completely understand the skepticism people have about the guy. He has turned into an utter and complete pile of garbage on the ice this season and has seemingly lost all motivation to play in Montreal. That fact alone is a major turn off for teams looking for a new add. That being said, I do feel people are dramatically undervaluing what he can bring to a team. Before this abysmal season, Petry was putting up numbers akin to some of the highest paid offensive defensemen in the league and consistently at that. He's an incredible skater and a major reason Montreal had any type of success in playoffs last year and the year before. I totally understand that Petry's current family situation, disapproval of MTL's season and coaching, absence of closest teammates (Weber and Price) in the lineup, MTL strict Covid regulations, etc. are all excuses people are not interested in hearing, however, I am positive GMs are taking these things into consideration when determining his real value. All of that taken into account, Petry for a prospect and perhaps a mid to late pick doesn't seem outlandish to me, especially for Dallas who maybe wants to replace Klingberg with a similar caliber, slightly cheaper option.

As far as the signings are concerned, these are the players I would love to see Montreal take a stab at during free agency. Obviously It would be near impossible to land every one of these guys + Montreal isn't currently the most attractive destination by any means but I suppose stranger things have happened. Giroux and Letang of course would be tough sells but perhaps insight into Montreal's future trade plans as well as nice, fairly high, long-term contracts would be convincing. Goligoski is a veteran defender who is having an excellent year offensively with Minnesota. Would be a good player to slot into 2nd or 3rd pairing alongside one of the younger guys.

Anyways, these were my thoughts. Don't roast me too hard lol. I understand people are passionate about these things and being a habs fan doesn't make me an expert on every team and their needs. Just having a little bit of fun and spit-balling!

  2. 2023 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Expensive for a bottom 6 guy but a very solid depth player and penalty killer and perhaps worth it for a team struggling to make the cap. This doesn't have to be to Seattle but rather any team that meets that criteria.

Similar situation as Byron. Would be a cap dump but perhaps worth it for a team struggling to make the cap and willing to take payment. This doesn't have to be to Arizona but rather any team that meets that criteria.

Mostly in every trade, you could add a bit more going to the habs, but overall not bad

Allen might net you a second IF the Avs were desperate and hadn't managed to re-sign Kuemper & Francouz at that point. Otherwise it's an easy pass.

Stars decline. Bourque isn't available for trades with a major risk behind them.

Every single one of these trades other than the Armia and Byron ones (I think that they'll bring you SOMETHING) overstates the value of the Montreal players involved, and you should have to add to each one. In particular, four years of soon-to-be-26-years-old Connor Garland is worth a LOT more to Vancouver than one year of soon-to-be-27-year-old Jonathan Drouin, and neither Norlinder nor the future second make up for the difference.

I can see that. Most of these trades to be fair are what I'd like to see or am predicting to see as a return, so Allen to the Avs in particular is more so just a representation of what I believe he may fetch ultimately. Wouldn't necessarily have to go to Colorado.
