Description
I realize this is crazy. I am just having fun. However I do think this helps both teams.

Even with the Lehtonen buyout the Hawks clear cap space at the goaltending position.
Crow + backup = $6,900,000 for 2017-2020
Darling + backup + buyout = $6,600,000 for 2017 and $5,700,000 for 2018 and $4,100,000 in 2019
Plus the Hawks don't have nearly $7,000,000 tied up in Seabrook for the next 6 years.

People will say, "yeah the Stars can just sign a UFA goalie". Yes they could but then they'd have over $15M tied up in goaltending (assuming a $5M goalie signing). And if they bought out one of the other two they still have over $12M tied up in goalies. With this they rid themselves of a useless $5.9M cap hit to pick up a real goalie for similar salary. They also get help on the back end with Seabrook. Yes his contract is bad but the Stars need help and he provides it.

So here are my thoughts:
Crawford for Lehtonen and part of Shore
Seabrook for Johns and other part of Shore

This leaves the hawks with a significant amount of cap space to sign a D-man or good forward.

Oh and yes "blah blah blah" about in divisional trades. THEY HAPPEN! A LOT! This helps the Hawks just as much as it helps the Stars.

Bowman trades within the division frequently. This definitely helps Dallas. They get 3 things. Unload a Goalie contract. Get a great goalie and get a quality Dman. The hawks get 2 things. unload cap space and get a young left winger. These are things to think about, but Seabrook has a full NTC/NMC so I don't think he accepts going to Dallas in the end.

This would save the Hawks a ton of cap space but it would hurt the team a lot in the short term and I don't think Bowman would trade both Seabrook and Crawford for that return. If the Hawks could find a young dman better than Johns then maybe

Yeah the NMC is obviously a huge hurtle. For any Seabrook trade. But who knows, maybe Seabrook likes the look of that Dallas team or the location.

I do agree with you that this trade hurts the Hawks in the short term on the defensive side, especially puck moving defenseman. But they do have a lot of assets that they can use to land a decent #3-4 D-man. Or a free agent signing with the extra $4-5M in cap space. However this does help them on the offensive side with Shore. The 22 year old 6'1" 205lb forward put up 33 points in his rookie season on a struggling, injury riddled Stars team. He could be the other winger the Toews line needs with Panik.
