Description
Opening Night Lineup:
Eklund-Hertl-Meier
Dahlen-Couture-Barabanov
Balcers-Reedy-Labanc
Nieto-Bonino-Raska

Ferraro-Karlsson
Hatakka-Merkley
Knyzhov-Lundkvist

Hill-Kahkonen

Forwards:
Nothing changes much during the season besides the call-ups (Bordeleau, Leonard, etc.). Focus on playing young guys and not the mouth breathers.

Defense:
Boom or bust is what I'd use to describe this. Ferraro-Karlsson should be very strong and reliable, but the bottom four could go either way. If Knyzhov returns and is in form, he'll be a strong defensive defenseman to play with Lundkvist. Hatakka-Merkley could be a ride, but Hatakka has really progressed in the AHL since his last send down and both should be ready for solid minutes in the NHL.

Goaltending:
Also a boom or bust scenario. Both goalies have lots of potential and could be great starters. If one emerges to be elite then that's great, if not, we have Gaudreau in the pipeline and he will be a stud.

This season would probably be like this one. Really a mixed bag and tailing off towards the end. If they succeed then great! If they lose that's alright, rather loose young than old and this season would be best if we're at the bottom. I have the Sharks drafting around 10th in 2022 and selecting Lambert, but that could change. Center depth looks strong going forward and RD is also strong as well as young.

  1. Burns, Brent ($3,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Draft Day Deal-Letang and Pens don't come to terms on a contract. Burns brought in as a replacement as Sharks look to clear a roster spot for Merkley and clear some cap. Contract won't be much of a burden as it expiries around the end of Pens cup window/end of Crosby's current contract.

    1. Gregor, Noah [RFA Rights]
    2. Simek, Radim
    3. 2022 7th round pick (ARI)
    Additional Details:
Draft Day Deal-Simek has been passed on the depth chart by younger guys. His 2mil cap hit isn't a great idea to keep on the books. Moving him out to Arizona looking to get above cap floor + needing more contracted NHL defenseman seems like the smart move. Along with Gregor who has skill but can't seem to finish; the cap dump is covered.
    3.
    NYR
    1. Reimer, James ($1,000,000 retained)
    2. 2022 3rd round pick (SJS)
    Additional Details:
Draft Day Deal-Rangers move Georgiev out and bring in Reimer who is a huge upgrade. Would be a great backup to Shesterkin at around 1 mil. Could take a huge weight off Shesty’s shoulders and be a great option if he gets injured. Getting older so probably won’t be able to play as many games as he did this year, but as the back up behind the best goalie in the league; 30 games would be the max he would probably play.

    SJS
    1. 2023 5th round pick (TOR)
    TOR
    1. Bonino, Nick ($1,000,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
2023 TDL-Kinda hard to predict a landing spot for a rental 1 year away, but I'll give it my best. Dubas brings in a solid 4C to shore up bottom 6. At this stage the goal scoring probably completely evaporates and he becomes a purely defensive forward.
    5.
    SJS
    1. 2023 6th round pick (COL)
    COL
    1. Nieto, Matt
    Additional Details:
2023 TDL-New Year, new forward depth. Similar deal to Cogliano's. Not much to say, Avs fans probably know him well.
    6.
    SJS
    1. 2023 3rd round pick (OTT)
    2. 2024 3rd round pick (OTT)

    1. Labanc, Kevin
    Additional Details:
2023 TDL/Mid Season Trade-Labanc bounces back with line-mates who are more offensively focused and nets around 15 goals and 45 points. Due to the Meier needing to be signed; Sharks move him to a team with cap space and on the rise.

I mean, he’s a black hole defensively, but he’s put up 40 points in 62 games behind a poor offense. Moving him to a better system with a better offense would really help him to keep steady. At only 5mil, I’m sure you could get positive value.

He’s worth more than a late 1st. He’s NHL ready. 2 years left on the ELC. It’s really tough to say. Our position of need is C and I doubt Eklund is available for a swap. So maybe just to put a value in there.

Lundkvist & 2nd in 23’ for Reimer & 1st in 22’. Maybe just a 22’ 1st swap. Just thinking of ideas to balance it. Just adding a 3rd or 4th or low prospect isn’t going to do it
