That's awful. He has no term, and you are giving up olofsson, who is criminally underrated, a late first, a an early second next year. I get that you pay a premium for right d, but that's crazy town. At that price, I would pass and kick the tires on a guy like petry, who I don't actually want.

At the beginning of the season, many Sabre ACGM's were touting Olofsson would return a first and second.
while he suffered through a 30 game scoring drought, he has 11 goals since March 2nd, 19 games.
If Hagel (who does not have a resume nearly as good as Olofsson) can return two first round picks and two NHL players, IMO that is Olofsson's value as well.
So Severson is worth three firsts and a second?

If he could be had for a small price (no pun intended Carey) Buffalo should investigate adding him to the line up.
He has turned his season around with 10 pts in his last 17 games after scoring only 6 in his first 40.

Olofsson is not worth anywhere near two firsts, the reason that Hagel got that much was because of his contract. Olofsson is going to be an RFA, and RFA's have very little value. Buchnevich is an example of a player similar to Olofsson, although Buch is much better and similarly aged, only got a 2nd as a RFA. Part of the Severson deal (I'd assume) would be a trade and sign to an extension. Severson is worth damn near 2 firsts, great player on a terrible defense with very nice advanced stats, plus the premium for being a right handed defenseman.

Again, I think olofsson has an all world shot, I enjoy watching him, and of course now healthy he is doing exactly what I expected him to do. As far as the winger market- sure, guys like buchnevich and Reinhart got less than you would think, to me that's all the more reason to keep them. So if you have to pay that much of a premium to get the right d that you want, see what else you can find, no point buying with diminished assets.
