Avs probably didn't lose any value by waiting to trade after the TDL. (if they trade at all). Leafs with their cap would rather spend in the UFA market then give up good assets and trade for high priced Johnson.
Same with Bruins, easy to find 5.5m LWer than a potential very good and now very inexpensive Dman in McCoy.

You just explained why it should have been done at the deadline. Now that McAvoy has played and played well they won't want to trade him but they definitely would have traded him and a 1st for Landy at the deadline. Johnson is a really good RHD undervalued because he's on a bad team. He would add a lot to a young TO team.

Not sure why McAvoy + 1st for Landeskog should have been done (def not from Boston's side). Sweeney said from day 1 that Carlo/McAvoy were non-starters in a deal for Landeskog. What should have happened...

2017 1st + Zboril + DeBrusk + Miller for Landeskog

Johnson is really underrated but he's also 29 and signed long term, if he was 2/3 years younger I would be more interested,

Sigh, None of this is really feasible , especially compounding all the moves together. Avs are not going to move 3-4 big game games. Duchene will be gone and thats about it
