Offseason Attempt

I've been seeing a lot of Garland to New Jersey trades on here recently which I think makes a ton of sense for the Devils, but they've all been based around the old rumors about Zacha being the main piece going to Vancouver. While it's possible that's still in play, most Vancouver fans have said they'd need a top 4 D coming back and Severson fits that bill. For New Jersey, this fills the need for a top 6 RW and solves the problem of whether to pay or trade Severson before his contract runs out next offseason. I admittedly don't personally love this for the Canucks, but it would fill the hole at top 4 RD (at the price of a cost controlled youngish top 6 wing). This likely wouldn't be the full deal, but the base of the trade involving other pieces like picks/prospects or other players (like potentially Zacha, or maybe Michael Ferland's contract going back to the Devils).

Not sure if the Canes would move him, but Bear seems to me like he could be a solid Severson replacement if developed correctly.
