Description
Just redoing the expansion draft, not taking how players played this year into consideration, all based on last year's performances.

Do what you want with the trades, I didn't feel like recreating them cause everything would be different although I think someone like vatrano could have been traded to Toronto at the start of the year for a second or so, then they wouldn't have the need to sign Ritchie.

Just an idea of what the team could have looked like, obviously a bunch of defencemen would need to be traded in the offseason but that should have been pretty easy.
Trades
1.
SEA
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya
Additional Details:
Picked from Arizona instead of Pitlick.
TOR
  1. 2022 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
If I had my choice between depth shut down RD and bottom 6 forwards I take the dman all day personally.
2.
SEA
  1. Bean, Jake
Additional Details:
Geekie looked ok but I would take the dman any day off the week. Could possibly still trade him to Columbus for a second afterwards.
CBJ
  1. Geekie, Morgan
Additional Details:
Picked from Carolina instead.
3.
SEA
  1. Zadorov, Nikita
Additional Details:
Picked from Chicago instead of Quenneville who they let walk as a UFA.
CGY
Could still trade him to Calgary.
    4.
    SEA
    1. Domi, Max
    Additional Details:
I probably take a chance on Domi over picking Bayreuther and not signing him. Either him or Carlsson.
    CAR
      Picked from Columbus.
      5.
      SEA
      1. Stecher, Troy
      Additional Details:
      Picked from Detroit instead.
      6.
      SEA
      1. Vatrano, Frank
      Additional Details:
Vatrano is a proven 20 goal scorer I pick him over Driedger.
      NYR
      1. Driedger, Chris
      Additional Details:
      Picked from Florida instead.
      7.
      SEA
      1. Lizotte, Blake
      Additional Details:
I like Lizotte more than the fourth round pick they got for MacDermid.
      LAK
      1. 2023 4th round pick (COL)
      Additional Details:
      Picked from LA instead.
      8.
      SEA
      1. Kähkönen, Kaapo
      Additional Details:
I like kahkonen more than Soucy, I think he has a greater potential than some other goalies available.
      SJS
      1. Soucy, Carson
      Additional Details:
      Picked instead from Minnesota.
      9.
      SEA
      1. Kulak, Brett
      Additional Details:
I take the nhl defenceman in Kulak over Fleury. If they really wanted to get the brothers together I'm sure they could have traded for him for cheap.
      EDM
      1. Fleury, Cale
      Additional Details:
      Picked from Montreal instead.
      10.
      SEA
      1. Duchene, Matt
      Additional Details:
I might take some slack for this but Duchene is the only legit 1C option in the expansion draft. Johansen would be my second choice but I think Duchene is better. The term and money could be kind of scary but they need someone to play up the middle in the top 6.
      NSH
      1. 2022 2nd round pick (FLA)
      2. 2023 3rd round pick (CGY)
      3. 2024 7th round pick (CGY)
      Additional Details:
Picked from Nashville instead of jarnkrok.
      11.
      SEA
      1. Bastian, Nathan
      Additional Details:
I like what he brings and I wouldn't have let him go on waivers.
      NJD
      12.
      SEA
      1. Atkinson, Cam
      Additional Details:
If this was a trade option for vorachek I am all over it.
      PHI
      1. Twarynski, Carsen
      Additional Details:
Vorachek picked instead then traded to Columbus.
      13.
      SEA
      1. Middleton, Jake
      Additional Details:
Nothing about Alex True really impressed me, I take the depth nhl dman.
      MIN
      1. True, Alex
      Additional Details:
      Picked from SJ instead.
      14.
      SEA
      1. Colton, Ross
      Additional Details:
This one still blows me away considering Tampas situation. I do like Yanni Gourde but I don't like how contract and at the time I thought Colton was a far better pick for the team. I think if they really wanted Gourde that a deal could be worked out if he was willing to waive.
      TBL
      1. Gourde, Yanni
      Additional Details:
      Picked instead.
      15.
      SEA
      1. Vanecek, Vitek
      Additional Details:
      I'll just keep him thanks.
      WSH
      1. 2023 2nd round pick (WPG)
      16.
      SEA
      1. DeMelo, Dylan
      Additional Details:
I like Appleton but I would pick the right shot defenceman over him.
      WPG
      1. 2023 4th round pick (WPG)
      Additional Details:
      Picked instead
      17.

I understand why Seattle didn't pick Duchene with how he was trending, but man with hindsight this team could be sooo much better. Even the picks they could have gotten for flipping some of these guys would be far more noteworthy.

I tried not using hindsight and I flipped back and forth between Johansen and Duchene and I've made teams like this with both. I just felt like those two were the only players available that have and could fill a 1C roll, Yanni Gourde is a 3C at best and McCann just isn't there either, although I do like him.

I do like your optimism, but there were reasons why Francis didn’t go after the bigger contracts in the expansion draft. He was really hoping that GM’s would be as stupid as they were with Vegas and they would pay in draft capital. Unfortunately, Francis rolled the hard line of wanting a first round pick for ANY expansion draft considerations. He wants to build the team through the draft, and while hindsight screws over certain picks, Francis went on the safe route. Francis wanted to take as anti Vegas an approach as possible, so the earliest that the Kraken might look to compete would be in maybe the 2025-26 season, when they have their core established and the prospects coming up.

Still alot of their picks don't make sense for that either, why not grab guys and trade them for draft capital? They drafted a couple guys that they let walk as UFAs when they could have drafted players as positive assets. The whole expansion draft was very confusing. Also this roster would have alot more draft capital than their current one.

Seattle took Bayruether and let him walk because they wanted Kivlenieks. Obviously, that was before Kivi did what he did and lost his life, so they opted to take effectively no one by letting Bayruther return to Columbus. It was just a sign of respect.
