Description
Moving Mangiapane is not the ideal move I don't think but if this was out there and the Flames didn't need to expend more assets to move Lucic I don't think it's a bad move.

You’d think Kylington could be a nice OS candidate

He will 100% file for arbitration so he can't sign one as soon as he does

While I like Necas I think this is a pretty clear downgrade. Necas had some decent production this year but isn't remotely as impactful away from the puck as Mangiapane. To me Mangiapane is Teravainen 2.0 and Necas just isn't that type of player at all.

I don't disagree, I think this very well could have been a career year for Mangiapane in goals at least, that's a pretty tough clip to maintain but now the Flames have to pay him as if he's the 35 ish goal guy. Necas isn't a fall off a cliff downgrade, I think Suzuki is a nice piece with Backlund leaving in a couple years there needs to be some C depth. This scenario is strictly if MAngiapane prices himself out of Calgary or there is no way to move Lucic. I don't think it gets to that but I don't hate the option.

Mangiapane is going to get somewhere between the Rust deal and Bjorkstrand/Turbo deals. When it comes to negotiating with RFA's there is no one better in the league than Treliving. I am quite confident in his ability to sign him to a great deal around 5-5.5M this summer.

I do understand why you made this post as I read your post in the other ACGM and also commented there as well. Assuming Lucic doesn't just retire after his signing bonus I do believe there is a pretty solid market for him at 875k in actual money owed. I think All 4 of Anaheim, Seattle, Arizona, and Ottawa will be calling about him.

Between Monahan and Lucic only 1 really needs to be moved to make cap work IMO as I don't think either of Tkachuk or Gaudreau get 10M and Gudbranson comes back super cheap on a 2-3 year deal. Where I'm getting with this is who do you see more likely to be moved? I feel like depending on how Monahan looks when he laces up this month (and how he progresses leading up to Camp). I think if he looks reformed the same way Tarasenko came back strong after his back to back injuries they may move on from Lucic instead and keep Monahan
