Underpay for Sandin, I can see them maaaaybe thinking about if you offer retention on Varlamov but Toronto isn't just gonna toss him off like this.

What if the 3rd moves to COL 2nd in 2022? Sandin can get offersheeted for just 1 2nd and I've seen Sandin for a 2nd and 3rd a few times here. How wouldnt Varly (which they need a G) and a 3rd not do?

The feeling I get from Leafs fans (and scouting reports) is that Sandin has top 4 upside, he's a recent 1st rounder, and Toronto isn't going to want to just dump him for a 2nd/3rd package. You can always offersheet him at $4.1M and just drop a 2nd on him, which is why I think people are offering a 2/3 and saying "it's better than an offersheet" but I'd also think Dubas would match that if he truly believes this kid is going to be a top 4 player, and find the cap elsewhere.

I could see Toronto fans taking Varlamov (fully retained) with the Colorado 2nd for Sandin, maybe throw in a later pick swap or something. The retention is the biggest part IMO, if you've looked at all the TML ACGMs around here, how many of them have you seen with only 21 players because they don't have -any- cap room?
