Johnny's rights are pretty useless, still cant sign him to 8 years. Just gives then a chance to negotiate before free agency

Just to add, why are the Flames being punished taking on Couterier's new long term contract? Can't see that aging well.

I would love him in Calgary, it may not age well eventually but by that time he will essentially have the same cap % or possibly less than Backlund to do the same thing. I think if you remove the random retention, and the Johnny rights the trade is pretty decent. Calgary would have to move Lucic as well but that's fine. Maybe replace Seeler with MacEwen?

I would do this trade if the Flyers plan is a full rebuild. But if you’re going full rebuild then you’re not signing Gaudreau.
