Yeah thats going to be a hard pass and Buffalo ignores Dumbas until he gets fired. That makes negative sense for Buffalo, not even no sense, its less than no sense

Why on Earth would Buffalo do that?

I guess I am undervaluing Asplund here. My thoughts were, Mrazek has a long track record of being a solid league average goalie, one disastrous year doesn't erase that. At $3.8, he's terrible value, but at $1.75, he probably works. Holl is a perfectly fine third pairing guy who can play second pair in a pinch, and eat lots of PK minutes. He is also the type of guy that would be in demand at the trade deadline for teams looking for cheap depth.

Take out Asplund and replace him with a third round pick, then flip Holl at the deadline for a third, you will have gotten Mrazek @1.75, and given essentially nothing in return. Would that work?

Mrazek would be in Rochester, and Holl would be in the press box. Asplund was one of the leagues best defensive forwards last year. Holl was Toronto's worst dman. The Sabres are getting nothing of need, there's no reason for Buffalo to help Toronto, especially when they're paying
