Description
Maybe a bit of wishful thinking.

I don’t think Boston can really address the #1 centre this year, as the options available aren’t that big of upgrades or have too much potential risk/ downside in my opinion.

I think moving Coyle would give them the flexibility to search for a #1 this season or next. Bergeron (if back) is still playing at a high level and fills the role. Haula has shown great chemistry with Hall and Pastrnak. I think the top six is fine when all are healthy.

Moving Coyle and letting a few youngsters battle for the role would be fine. The hope would be one of the steps up and fill the role of third line C.

The Ducks need to spend money or acquire players. I think Coyle would be a good fit as mentor for the younger centers. Wagner is a bit of toughness and a ufa. Reilly helps their backend depth and could be a trade bait for them if needed. The two young Ducks would have an opportunity for bigger roles on Boston. Both have potential but haven’t broken out yet in the NHL and I think other prospects have moved ahead of them in the depth chart.

The Seattle trades is a bit of a shake up. The hope would be Dunn could fill Krug role on the PP as Grzelyck hasn’t completed done so. I’m not sure if Seattle is planning on signing Dunn long term or trading him but I tried to include a bit of futures with the two Boston prospects as well as two current roster players. Geekie is another interesting player to throw into the mix in the bottom six for Boston. I like Lauko and Ahcan but don’t see a path for them to make the team this season. They would have more opportunity on Seattle.

Why would we want Coyle, Reilly or Wagner? We have all the leadership quality we need in Henrique, Silfverberg, Fowler and Shattenkirk, which is why we probably won't be moving any one of them. Comtois and Groulx are young and developing; Reilly is 29, Coyle is 30 and Wagner is 31 and a rental. Those aren't the kind of players a team at the bottom of the standings and rebuilding which won't get a sniff at the playoffs this season should be acquiring.

Why are we trading players that fit our window for old overpaid players?

I was going to say this is pointless because Coyle is 100% redundant with Henrique but OldNYIfan said it already. Well, I guess I said it any way.

Wagner is a dime-a-dozen fringe AHL/NHL bubble guy. Ducks already have two of those in Carrick and Grant.
