I mean, it depends if he can play the right side. And it's probably better for the growth of Fabbro and Carrier to play where they're at. To me this just gives them three defense pairings they can play in pretty much any situation. Who knows. I'd trust Ekholm more at RHD than McDonagh just because I've seen him play it a bit when Ellis was out a couple of years ago, and he performed pretty well playing with Josi. Maybe they go Josi - Ekholm, McDonagh - Carrier, Lauzon - Fabbro or something. If so, it makes me think that one of Fabbro/Carrier gets traded as RFAs next summer or sooner (depending how the season goes).

Overall, I'm not a big fan of it because it limits what NSH can do to improve their offense. They could've had Braun, Lyubushkin, or others for a significantly cheaper contract and probably been fine. I mean, it's gotta be one of the best left sides in hockey now, but it's also old, expensive, and slow. We'll see how it turns out.

Also as you said if Ekholm or mcdonagh can play their weak side maybe you put carrier or fabbro in a trade for miller. That would be a move that could boost our top 6 in contender mode like Poile just did to our defense
