Description
"it's easier to make this team worse than to make it better..."
or something like that

Oshie is a "done deal" at this point. He has been the wing Ovechkin needs on the right side - wins board battles, scores dirty goals, nasty and physical while having enough skill to gel with Backstrom/Kuznetsov.

Orpik's contract sucks but the Caps will just have to stick it out for 17-18 and then maybe be able to trade him the following season and eat salary.

Schmidt gets bumped up to top 4 while Bowey gets his first NHL action. Djoos is #8 D man.

Grubauer is as safe a bet as any to get swiped by Vegas, caps do not need to reshuffle roster or convince GMGM to pick anyone in particular. Gruby gets poached, copley graduates to back up duty.

    Pretty spot on IMO...
The only thing I'd change is just tweaking some of the term & dollar amounts on the contracts...
Other than that, it should pan out to something like that or at least very similar ....

Overall pretty good, but one major thing. Kuznetsov is definitely not signing for anything less then 6.5 Mill. I mean look at players similar to him and what they signed. I'm talking about Monahan and Barkov, just for the sake of comparison. He is probably worth like 6.7 for 8 years. Also if caps can't afford him, I won't be surprised if a team like Montreal or Carolina take a run at him.

There's nothing wrong with standing pat if you're the Caps. They were the best in the league for a reason -- many reasons. But at some point, doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different outcome is the definition of insanity. I can't tell you what's missing from this team, but something must be.
