The Isles lucked out when the Rangers were dumb enough to select Kravstov while Wahlstrom was available, and I highly doubt they want to help the Rangers rectify that mistake. Cizikas is not a 3C and no thanks to his contract.

Isles easily decline, and it honestly has nothing to do with the value (although I think the Rangers add a little more to that package if they want to make it happen). Lou is an old-school guy and I can't see him trading the heart and soul of his team's "Identity Line" to the Rangers. I know it's not a hockey reason, but I do think that it's something that comes into consideration for rivals like this. Cizikas was also rumored to have turned down 3x$5M from Seattle last summer and took the 6x$2.5M from the Islanders - same amount of dollars just spread out to lower the AAV. I have to assume that Casey did that with the implied promise that he would stay on the Island as long as possible.

I think you can get Colin White cheaper though, and I think he's a good target for 3C if you want to play Chytil at 2C. If you can get someone to bite on that Reaves contract, and you pay White somewhere around a $1.5M AAV on a "prove-it" deal, I think you'd still have around $4Mish to target a different 2C and have the lines go Mika-$4M 2C-Chytil-White, which would be solid depth.
