I agree with the sentiment that Panarin appears to be the odd guy out. If so, why would the Hawks allow him to meet his scoring criteria thus kicking in schedule B bonuses of around $1.7M for this upcoming season?

What's the point of this? Trading Panarin to move up in the first round? That's horrible value

I assume you are a Hawks fan. And because your handle indicates affection for Patrick Sharp, you may remember his trade to Dallas two years ago. That transaction was perhaps the very worst of all the trades bowman has been a part of -- value-wise, return, impact going forward. Presently, Chicago has a cap hit of $77.5M with a 22 man roster. Although next year's cap is not yet known, it is prudent to speculate with a conservative number -- say, $73-75M. This means cuts have to happen just to be cap compliant/ability to ice a team. Vegas will most likely take one of these 22 rostered guys. Kruger and Panik would provide the most relief. Hartman and van Riemsdyk are popular choices yet offer very little relief. If one of these four role players are selected, replacements would then also be in order. Basically, the value of moving Panarin is solely for cap space purpose. And hope that Alex DeBrincat can be a Calder candidate with Breadman-type stats! Chicago perhaps has some glaring needs despite winning their division last season. Center, left wing, defensemen, backup goalie (not to mention improvement on the PP and PK). But their biggest concern is the cap. It does not make any sense to trade a productive guy who may be the second best Hawks player. But that is part of business. Personally, I would trade Panarin to Dallas for the 3rd pick and Stephen Johns.
