I like it, though I am not sure why the Islanders would trade for MaxPac if they aren't planning to load up for a Cup run. The same could be asked of the Canadiens -- why get JT and give up one of the most prolific goal scorers in the league?

If Habs are going for the Cup, they should give up Sergachev and get a game changer. They'll have to overpay, but come June 2018, no one will care if there's a parade on Ste-Catherine's Street. If they can't find suitable upgrades, they should think about trading off assets, bring in a few rentals like Thornton and Marleau, and begin the arduous process of building up.

You win and die in this league at the center position. The Habs have nice depth at wing. Pacioretty's next contract will handcuff the balance of the payroll in term of having the ability to sign or trade for a legit center. I'd rather see the club invest that kind of money where it matters. Prolific goal scoring winger with Danault or Desharnais isn't going to win a playoff series.

Get 2 legit top centers. Let the wingers fall where they may and this organization will be better off for it, now and in the long run. Old age rentals that can't make it over the hump with the likes of Pavelski & Couture are clearly not the solution. Briere, Semin etc experiments have shown you have to pay for impact players. Not wish upon a rusty star.

Restructure with strength down the middle. It's the only way. The rest is futility and pipe dreams. Just my 2 cents.
