Description
This is 4 players for 4 players. 5 and 5 like the original just gets really expensive with cap today.

I know it’s only 20 players and more movement would be needed to make this work under today’s cap. It’s just more of a fun thought on replicating one of the biggest trades in Leafs history
Trades
TOR
  1. Lindholm, Elias
  2. Tanev, Christopher
  3. Zadorov, Nikita
  4. Zary, Connor
Additional Details:
Lindholm is the Dougie in the deal. Point per game centre who’s among the best two way players in the game today.

Tanev is the Jaime Maccoun of today. A big veteran stay at home defenceman

Zadorov is the Ric Nattress of the deal. Another big defenceman who was more of a stay at home guy.

Lasty Zary is the Kent Manderville of the trade. They were both centre prospects picked at similar parts of the 1st round.
CGY
  1. Bunting, Michael
  2. Král, Filip
  3. Muzzin, Jake
  4. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
Willy is the Gary Leeman. Willy is an ever better version of Gary, so Calgary is already doing better than the original deal.

Bunting is the Craig Berube of the deal. Obviously he can play more than Berube could but with very few enforcers these days this is the best example of what kind of player you’d get back now. Clifford and Simmonds are too old to replicate the deal, which is why I included Bunting

Jake Muzzin is the Michel Petit of the deal. Petit was a defenceman who was a high draft pick and put in a ton of time in the league. He actually played for 10 teams!

Kral is the Alexander Godynyuk of the trade. Both are young defenceman who were not high picks. Both are added youngsters to the deal

Interesting concept lol, but this looks like a trade for next year, if both teams fail miserably. The next season would clear up any question marks around Nylander's extension, Bunting, Muzzin's play and injury status for both teams.

From the Flames' perspective though, with Backlund probably gone in a year at that point, they would have a hole at 1 and 2C which would be very problematic, and they are losing Zary, but who knows maybe MacKinnon doesn't sign an extension with the AVS but I suspect that he will be extended just as soon as their 2C gets signed.

I don’t actually think it’s horrible assets for assets though a bit in favour on leafs side .BUT Calgary is already on the thin side at c so they can’t do this.
