I like how the islanders get nothing out of this trade. What a joke.

Kadri on the third line getting 7.5 lol, so dumb. You can easily get a good or decent third line centre in free agency

The Islanders need offense. Scheifele puts up more points than Barzal, Wheeler puts up more points than Bailey and Dillon is a better defenceman than Mayfield. Also, Islanders are more set at RD than LD, so that's another reason the D swap makes sense for them whereas the Jets are deeper at LD. Also, Scheifele is signed for 2 more seasons whereas Barzal's contract is up after this upcoming season and rumors are that he wants to play elsewhere where he can play with better wingers. Granted Scheifele is a UFA in 2 seasons, but the Islanders will be well positioned to sign him to an extension.

I hardly see how the Islanders get "nothing" out of the trade.

The lines are meant to be three balanced scoring lines. It doesn't matter what order there in if all three lines get close to the same 5v5 ice time.

The Jets window could be done in two seasons when Hellebuyck becomes a UFA and the team has the cap space after the trades to pay Kadri very well for two seasons (until Hellebuyck becomes a UFA and the Jets may need to rebuild).

This lineup is meant to get Dubois excited enough to sign long term as it shows a commitment to building a winner. However, he may need to be traded as soon as next summer if he can't be convinced to sign an extension, so at that point Kadri moves up to the 2C spot.

Therefore, I think 31 year old Kadri signed for $7.5 million AAV for 2 seasons would be a solid move as long as the cap space is available.

Barzal is an RFA at the end of his deal, that rumor is false. Barzal is not available , especially not for a soon to be 30 year old center
