Description
Just a thought on his plan - let the team try and be competitive; if they fail we get a high pick and transition to a younger team. If we succeed and get near the playoffs but out of the race - we trade off moveable assets and again, transition to a younger team. And if the Sharks make the playoffs - it’s just a miracle and gets a team back to winning environment, which is always a positive internally for a team that’s struggled for a few seasons.

The current roster is the hopeful outlook on a younger team transition.

For Knyzhov; it’s evident he could start in the AHL. Here I’m just hopeful he’s good to go opening night in the NHL.

i wonder if grier has any plans to get rid of some of the bigger contracts. namely vlasic. would cost a LOT but i wonder if he'd have the guts to pay to get rid of him to somewhere that would take him. probably a rebuilding team like ARZ alongside a few picks

overall i think this could be a solid plan, although i think that a couple more guys (nutivaara, hill if they can get a goalie who can play games, maybe lorentz) might be moved too

I was considering making a move with Nutivaara but he has so many variables that will affect his value I found it not worth predicting that situation as it’s more likely he’s just traded for a late pick but he could raise his value and I think Hill can earn a job this seaosn if he’s healthy. He’s gotta fight for it. Same with Kaapo. And finally I think Lorentz could be worth keeping based on his praise from fans of Carolina.

I wish he had the gull to move Vlasic and he probably does but I don’t know what it would cost and if it’s a first that’s a non starter unless it’s heavily protected and so it would probably cost multiple picks and prospects which just isn’t worth moving as the Sharks finally have a strong system depth right now. It wouldn’t be great to risk moving a guy like Wiesblatt (top 15-8 prospect) or Robins ( top 3 prospect arguably in SJS) to get rid of Vlasic.

If Arizona however, would be willing to take a valuable prospect from the goalie position. SJS should consider that. We have Kaapo and Hill, a vet in Reimer and Dell (AHL), and then we have 4 really quality prospects.

Gaudreau - solid potential and worth moving but I am a fan
Mann - huge fan of him and has a starter vibe
Makiniemi - had a wicked AHL start but got injured, worth moving
Chrona - went from a whatever piece in Tampa to now a legit prospect to watch had a great year in Denver and was a top goalie in the league and led Denver to a tournament championship win

It would be cool if Grier signed all these bottom 6 players just to get something for free by trading them at some point. It's just so insanely crowded

His biggest problem will be the nutjob owner who wants to 'win now'. This is such an impossible market to move out cap space there is no way it would be worth the cost. Plus even if he did unless there is something to use it on right away then its kind of moot.

Its just really difficult because what the owner wants to do will likely be impossible.

Vlasic has a no move, he can veto any trade. After this year it changes to like a 3 team no trade so maybe then. It’s still just a better idea to just buy him out than give up the assets it would take to move that money.
