Description
In 2017/18 season Malgin played 51 games playing a lines with Huberdeau and Trocheck and Dadonov and Trocheck. He had 11 goals and 11 assists.

In the 2018/19 season he played 50 games in more of a checking line with Troy Brouwer and Jared McCann and Frank Vatrano also. In that season he 7 goals 9 assists.

In the 2019/20 season he played 36 games with FLA before being traded to TOR for Marchment. With FLA he played with Mike Hoffman and Frank Vatrano and put up 4 goals and 8 assist in 36 games. In TOR his most common linemates were William Nylander and John Tavares. Malgin did not put up a point in 8 games with the Leafs put he had postive numbers in both Corsi and Fenwick.

Malgin really stood out at the World Championships, playing alongside Detroit’s Suter. He scored five goals and 12 points in eight games for Switzerland, finishing top five in tournament scoring. Now coming back at 25 after putting up 52 points in 48 games this past season with ZSC Lions which he lead the team in scoring. Leafs already have three clear right wingers in Marner, Nylander, and Jarnkrok, so the fourth line looks like his best bet to make the team but Nylander has played LW so maybe there could be a way to get him a few shifts with JT and Willy.

Malgin looks to be a strong two-way player who positions himself well in his own zone, moves the puck out, and can assist on numerous shot attempts in the offensive zone. More than likely a sheltered scoring line with someone like Nick Robertson could help establish both of these players. Just thinking aloud but a a Robertson-Malgin-NAK line seems fun on paper.

At 25 I would be surprised if he came back just to play with the Marlies, he will get a chance to prove himself again.

Milano would be a great target for TOR, VGS, NYI, CGY so getting him won't be easy.

  1. Reichel, Kristian
Additional Details:
For the Leafs at this point just getting a team to take his full cap hit is a win, which WPG can. Can't really see a team giving up a draft pick this late in the summer. B or C prospect at this point IMO.
WPG
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
WPG has not be able to convenience any FA to sign with them this summer after making multiple attempts. Kerfoot would be a nice addition to a team still looking to compete this season. Kerfoot has proved he can play with skilled players and be an excellent on the PK. If the team flames out, then you have a great trade chip that you can flip at the TDL to a contending team, especially if you retain some salary. Going by what Jarnkrok got at the TDL last year, Kerfoot could get WPG something similar.

I agree, Malgin seems like he could be solid, also seems like a valuable guy who can play up and down the lineup

No chance Winnipeg gives up that much to help Toronto solve their cap issues.

he's a 24 year old UDFA with 52 points in 153 career AHL games (spread over 4 years). He's a warm body at this point. I think that Leafs fans thinking that they're getting back a 2nd+ for Kerfoot are insane, too, but this is incredibly reasonable. Basically swapping contracts so Winnipeg can add a player better than pretty much anyone left out in UFA right now.

That much? A career AHLer you've probably never heard of until this post?

This site makes me laugh.

Capfriendly never seems to disappoint.
