Description
I think if Eklund can get some reps on the wing while being expected to transition to Center could help Eklund not only build confidence but also play a more complete and expected role with the team. And with better depth this year the Sharks can provide him capable wingers immediately in Lindblom and Kunin, one complete 200ft player and a scoring grinder in Kunin who also can protect the kid.

I’m personally really intrigued to see if this is where SJ goes. Some games with Hertl/ Meier with consistent PP time to give him high quality linemates.

Where this gets sketchy is obviously Center is a more demanding role and if it goes poorly it leaves more pressure on Eklunds shoulders. Obviously he would be moved back to LW if this happens but it could further throw more wrenches into his path and that’s already happened all of last year with the brutal club he was with. It would be a defined role but a more critical role to take on.

I think Eklunds improved size will only help with this transition but he does need to thrive and if he can’t thrive here it’s only going to be more stress mentally for a kid who wanted to be with the team full time last season. It could be better to give him AHL C time with Bordeleau and bring both in after some time in the A, but that leaves the Sharks with a weak NHL roster losing a high end talent.

do you think Eklund makes more sense to play as a center long-term or should he stick to wing? I’m pretty sure while he was in the SHL he played center but don’t know if that was optimal for him.

1. The Knights announced that they aren’t trading for a goalie.
2. Hawks already have a backup in Stalock.

I don’t think either is the right or wrong path - it all depends on how he performs which is why AHL time may be a better introduction to Center and giving him linemates like Gushchin or Coe would be a huge plus.

For his career he may be more comfortable and long term safety at LW, but if he can transition to a C; as we’re seeing with Timmy. It would be more than career changing but also much more lucrative to Eklund and the team. More money and more demand for Cs and Eklund would only have legitimate competition from Bordeleau. Hertls our true #1 but Couture can transition to a 3C or winger easily.

The Knights also said they’re keeping Fleury.
The Hawks are tanking, really doesn’t matter if they believe they can flip Laurent if he has some decent games whereas Stalock is not an asset that will return anything.
