Description
breaking up the core by trading away Duchene to a team needing a top center to play with Skinner in exchange for a good young defenseman and a 2nd rounder. Also trading Barrie to the Oilers who could use some more defensemen for a young right winger which the avalanche desperately need. Trade down from #4 overall pick to #8 overall to get a decent young defensemen in Jake McCabe, and so they can draft a natural goal scorer (Owen Tippett). Owen Tippett fills the Avalanche's hole at RW (along with Puljujarvi) and will help the Avalanche fill their opponents net in the future (most likely on the top line with Nathan MacKinnon in a few years). Replace Pickard who was taken in the expansion draft by signing Brian Elliot. He will be a good "backup" (the quotations are there since we all know Varly will be out with a groin injury again this season, which will mean that Elliot will probably get at least 40 starts) for Varly this season and has a lot of experience. Other than that, just a few extra free agent signings to fill the holes in the roster so that the Avs can be a somewhat competitive team in 2017/2018.
