Description
Don't know what teams out there need a 25 year old top 4 LD on a good contract for two more years but I think with the Flames looking to extend Weegar and Hanifin only having two years left he could be the highest value piece the Flames could move for a top 6 forward.

If it were up to me I would keep him and try extend him in two years but I have a severe Hanifin bias.

If teams made intra-divisional trades -- particularly among similar playoff contenders -- I'd give you Alex Iafallo, Sean Walker and our 2023 third-round draft pick for him. But that won't happen.

Toronto should give you Alex Kerfoot, Rasmus Sandin and their 2023 first for him.

Only way Hanifin would be moved to LAK or TOR is for Adrian Kempe or William Nylander. Flames would be looking to upgrade their Top-6 Forwards by moving Hanifin. They'd have little interest in another D-Man (unless it's an upgrade like Ekblad or Chychrun), Non-Top-6 Forwards, Goaltenders or Picks

Hanifin might have half the value of Nylander tho

I share your sentiments about moving Hanifin. Don't want to break up the band, but wonder if another Top-6 Forward or Chychrun might get us further through the Playoffs and wonder how much he'll want to re-sign & stay in CGY for. I probably shouldn't paint them all with the same brush, but after the recent experiences with other American Free Agents (Gaudreau & Tkachuk) I wonder how loyal he'll be to CGY, so that's a consideration as well. (Yes, I worry about Coronato for the same reasons, so would even consider trading him too)

It would have to be a no brainer trade for it to happen this season, otherwise I think the decision gets made next off-season if he won't re-sign a Team Friendly extension. If he has another Good Year, he'll be wanting $7mil/yr+, but on that same note, his Trade Value will have increased as well, so he'll certainly be a Valuable Trade Chip
