-You're stuck with Miller, CBJ isn't going to bail you out of that 7x$8M. Also, it looks pretty bad to future potential signees if a GM trades a guy he just extended 3 months ago - especially when that GM also gave the player a full NMC for half of that deal and is just moving it out before the clause kicks in. Agents and players are going to remember that.
-Vegas only has about $362K in cap space. Boeser costs $6.65M; right now, Brossoit costs $1.2M to bury and Roy costs $3M. You're either retaining more than you want to on this deal or Vegas is declining.
-Burroughs for a 5th, sure, he's a decent depth player.
-I mean, the first deal doesn't happen so this wouldn't, but i'll bite - why are the Isles doing this? Both Bailey & Roslovic are underperforming forwards playing at a 25-30 point pace currently, both have one year left after this on their deals before UFA, and any of Roslovic's excess value as a center is negated by the fact that he'd be the 4th best center on the Isles behind Barzal/Nelson/Pageau. Seeing that the Islanders have plenty of cap space available to make deadline adds as we speak right now, there's really not a whole lot of impetus to swap out a 2nd in a deep draft for a minor at best upgrade in their bottom 6.
-I'd put both these together to make it make sense, value-wise - Kerfoot/Engvall/'23 1st/'24 2nd for Garland/Schenn/'24 4th. I don't think the value is awful - I just don't know if this is the route Toronto wants to take. Garland is basically a younger/more expensive/more term version of Kerfoot - middle 6 guys that can play anywhere and are useful on the PK. I can see it happening, I guess, but could also see the Leafs focusing more on depth adds than a big swing like this.
