Might as well wait on Lehner to get healthy. Thompson has been outstanding but he also hasn't played more than 50 NHL games. I love the kid but its risky to bet everything on him so early. Lehner is still a solid goalie and his value while injured is low. If he doesnt ever return and is riddled by injury, thats a problem to offload him then. Doing it now does give you the advantage of teams thinking theres still a possibility he plays. But if he returns, plays well, is traded, and Thompson struggles, he's a guy you'd probably want to keep. At least to give some stability before Thompson can prove he's going to be the guy long term. Its a difficult situation because of how much money Vegas has tied up in goaltending

Something tells me Vegas is a gamblin type of team

This trade makes them much better this year, they actually have capspace with very solid top 9

...and maybe even next year because if Thompson doesn't pan out in playoffs they have flexibility to get another netminder

lol good point. I agree that Boyd will be a great piece to sell at the deadline to a number of teams. Goaltending doesnt make much sense. They can take Broissoit, sure. Hes on an expiring deal and injured so if AZ could get anything to take him then its really no loss. Lehner has an 8 team no trade list this year and a 5 team the next 2 years. He doesnt fit in AZ cause Vejmelka is their guy and thats a lot of money to eat for a lot of years. Vegas is going to have to pay more than that to offload him to a team like Arizona. Even more will be required if Lehner doesnt return or his play declines

Replace 1 of the 3rds with [or just add] Chayka and does Vegas do it? AZU doesn't want more '24/'25 picks

They can absorb 1 LTIRetired contract long term if this was it

you do make a good point. i dont know as far as value goes, i cant speak for yotes fans in regards to what they would and wouldnt be willing to take. but beaching him on LTIR if he's done surely would be something theyd consider for the right return
