Description
I personally want the Leafs to get Timo Meier, I like that he will be an RFA at season's end and he would likely fit perfectly at 2nd line LW or even 1st line LW and bump Bunting down if/when he struggles. The other option that is enticing is Dominic Kubalik, with another year at 2.5M but I don't think Detroit is letting him go without at least a pair of 1sts, similar to the Hagel deal of the past.
On the cheap, perhaps Morgan Frost or JVR could be had.
There is always the big fish of Andrei Kuzmenko but that would be a very pricy risk and another Right Shot even though he plays the left side.
All in all, the Leafs outlook this season is better than in the past, they have great depth and lots of Roster flexibility shockingly. They have their 4 centers and 3 additional players that can fill in should an injury strike.
The Meier addition also potentially helps with the William Nylander contract status moving forward.
Trades
TOR
  1. Meier, Timo ($3,000,000 retained)
SJS
  1. Robertson, Nicholas
  2. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Depends on interest around the league but I think that is a reasonable starting cost. Two 1sts or a 1st and Robertson.

why do people keep comparing Kubalik to Hagel? Like they arnt remotly comparable in value at all and that's before you add in that the lightening clearly over paid and no one is giving up the same value for a similar player.

You think the Lightening overpaid? Hagel is extremely valuable considering 1.5M for this year and next. Also has 28 points in 35 games this season. They did not overpay. The trade value was spot on. Kubalik is a similar situation, more of a scorer, little higher AAV and one less year. I'd say that Detroit would be looking for a similar trade to the Hagel deal, no? Which is why I said I think it'd be too much to give up considering what I think the Leafs are looking for.

I don't understand all this "necessity" the Leaf fans for the acquisition of Meier. The cap doesn't work for next season at all. And trying trade a 9m player and not expecting any cap back, totally impractical.

yes, the lightning significantly over paid for a 23 year old 0.5ppg guy with less than 65 career points. Just a massive over payment every step of the way. The difference is they dont care and arnt concerned about 1sts because they are trying to dynasty it.
And Kubalik is not even close to Hagel in terms of value. He's 4 years older, more expensive and is a pending UFA in a year compared to Hagel being a pending RFA in 2 years. Kubalik i also a significantly worse player defensively and was doing the significant bulk of his scoring at 5v5 while Kubalik is basically a power play specialist getting massivly tilted offensive zone starts.
They are not remotely comparable

What are you talking about? A 9M dollar player? Meier is $6M. Are you talking about Skinner (who is $9M/yr)? Call me confused.
