Description
I'm taking a stab at Armstrong trading out core pieces, to try and tank the remainder of the year for a shot at Bedard. Armstrong has never been shy to trade pending UFAs or to walk them out to free agency.
Trades
1.
STL
  1. Bourque, Mavrik
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (DAL)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan ($3,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Stars will be hungry for a C, not wanting two rookies in Dellandrea and Johnson centering their 2nd & 3rd lines for the playoffs. Trade reminds me of Stone to Vegas few years back (pending UFA for a top prospect in Brannstrom and a 2nd). Stars don't have a '23 1st to offer so Bourque is the central piece in the return.
2.
STL
  1. Belliveau, Isaac [Reserve List]
  2. Kapanen, Kasperi
  3. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Tarasenko, Vladimir ($3,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
With Rust struggling, imagine Tarasenko on one of Crosby or Malkin's wings for the stretch run. Damnnn that'd be nice! The Pens are never afraid to make a splash and they make an all-in move while the aging core is still running. For a disgruntled winger, the Blues get an additional first, a mid level prospect and then Kapanen to make the money work, who could also be a serviceable player for them.
3.
STL
  1. Amirov, Rodion
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Barbashev, Ivan
Additional Details:
Although I think the Blues could re-sign Barbashev yet, the package they could get for him might be too enticing. I can picture a return similar to what Montreal received from Colorado for Lehkonen last year (Justin Barron and a 2nd). The Leafs, desperate to make a run this year, are a team I think with the appetite to do so and could move former first rounder Amirov along with a second. The Blues do take additional risk with Amirov's health but his potential is still there as a 15th overall pick.
4.
STL
  1. 2023 7th round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Greiss, Thomas
Additional Details:
A team familiar with the goalie. Islanders shell out a late pick for extra insurance heading into the post-season while the move creates room for the Blues to call up Hofer.
5.
STL
  1. 2023 4th round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Mikkola, Niko
Additional Details:
Pending UFA and a big DMan, I think teams would be happy to acquire Mikkola for extra grit and depth going into the playoffs. The Canes have cup aspirations and I think a 4th rounder would seal the deal. Also allows the Blues to call up Samorukov, give him a trial for remainder of the season after acquiring him from the Oilers

Varly is healthy. Isles don’t need Greiss.

Pretty sure that unless both ROR and Tarasenko absolutely burn the league down offensively, they won’t be getting those returns at the deadline. Oh sorry, I forgot, they are both currently injured and will be out 6 and 4 weeks respectively, barring further complications. So, 2 pending UFA’s that are unlikely to return, coming off injuries right before the deadline, with both having pretty miserable seasons so far, good luck finding much value.

Don't know how the middling Barbashov is worth nearly that much (as much as ROR) by this post. Plus Barbashov has been poor playoff performer.

Why would Barbashev get the Lehkonen return? Lehkonen was known for driving play against very uneven opposition, being a strong PKer, etc. Barbashev doesn't measure up in any fashion.

How good is Bourque? The difference between Stone and ROR is that stone was just finishing his big RFA deal. Stone they resigned for big money. ROR is on the downswing of his career
