Description
No idea what Colorado would want for Girard but it seems like they may have trouble fitting him under the cap and he might be a nice fit for Ottawa. Curious what people think...

Ideally what the avs would want for Girard is a simliar cost aav 2C with term of the same age, so its just a straight 1 for 1 cap swap.

But i dont think those are available or will cost more than Girard to pry out of a team. If the avs are able to land a 2C either in UFA or in a trade (Schwartz from Arizona is a name that has been tossed around lately in avs fandom lately) Then they could move Girard for a more future package, but with a NHL ready D prospect involved, as they are a little thin in D prospects outside of behrens.

A trade that you proposed is probably what they would end up doing if they land the 2C else where

Avs Fans, do you really think the team will be willing to part Girard for prospects and Picks? I know they are hard up on the cap, but if that is the case i would even go one better and offer Ostapchuck a true center and Thompson with a later-round pick, does this move the needle?

I'm iffy on Boucher being the main piece coming back but otherwise agree with your logic. Good futures plus close to ready d prospect would be a good goal.

all depends on Byrams health and what Toews wants on his next deal. Keeping Toews is more important. If he signs the same as Weegar etc, its an easy move. If hes looking for the Nurse Seth Jones type deals then keeping girard becomes more important

Personally, I don't think the Avs move Girard. I think they try and bridge the gap at 2C with a guy like Toews and then move Manson if/when they need cap (his trade protection opens up after next year).

That said, while Thomson is a guy I like, I don't think he's the best fit in Colorado. They already have Toews, Makar, and Byram, so they need a guy who is either defensive minded or more well rounded. I know Thomson has been working on that (according to reports I've seen anyway), but it still seems like a square peg, round hole type of scenario.

If Ottawa really wants Girard, they can certainly get it done. But I could see the Avs asking for pieces they don't want to part with and it not coming together in the end. Just my 2 cents.
