Description
In no particular order, these are the players that I think will be a good fit and make the Pens better. Now, will the money work, or will Ron Hextall attempt to trade, or is it even a realistic trade that the Pens could make...all of that is a whole other conversation. These are just possible players the Pens could acquire. Most of them are swing for the fence type of trades. I also did not include any goalies, because I think the bigger needs are 3C and middle/top 6 winger. Let me know what you think.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan
Additional Details:
Will likely cost a 1st round pick, and there has to be retention on his cap hit. Would be a great 3C for the pens. But he is going to be in high demand.
STL
2.
PIT
  1. Barbashev, Ivan
Additional Details:
Probably will cost a 2nd rounder plus. So a little cheaper than O'Reilly, but he is a good alternative to put at 3C.
STL
3.
PIT
  1. Henrique, Adam
Additional Details:
I think Henrique is a super underrated player that might not be traded this year. But if he is will probably cost a 1st round pick although I don't agree with that. Would be a great pick up for the 3C or could play in the top 6.
ANA
4.
PIT
  1. Chychrun, Jakob
Additional Details:
Not a huge need for the Pens, but would be a great piece for the next few years. Great cap hit. But I doubt the Pens would be able to make that trade.
ARI
5.
PIT
  1. Boeser, Brock
Additional Details:
Not my ideal option, as he doesn't help solve the 3C problem, but he could probably play in the top 6 pushing someone like Rust down which helps the third line. Although, I'd be worried that this could turn into a Kapanen situation...
VAN
6.
PIT
  1. Meier, Timo
Additional Details:
Before you call me crazy, I think this trade could actually work. It might cost us the farm, but I think it would be worth it for a player of Meiers caliber. Here me out: 2023 1st, 2023 2nd, Pickering, Blomqvist, and Kapanen for Meier? All that said, I doubt Hextall does it.
SJS
7.
PIT
  1. Larkin, Dylan
Additional Details:
Eh...maybe, I'm not too sure the Redwings even trade him. If they do I doubt they would trade with Pittsburgh. I'm also scared if they do because Hextall will get fleeced by Yzerman.
DET
8.
PIT
  1. Domi, Max
Additional Details:
I think Domi could be a really solid 3C rental, and I don't think he would cost too much...in a vacuum probably a 2nd and 3rd? But with other teams looking at him that price probably goes up.
CHI
9.
PIT
  1. Toews, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Obviously, a super expensive cap hit. But if we got a third team to retain some salary it might work. I think Toews would be a pretty good 3C, certainly better than Carter. Although Toews is definitely not at the top of my list.
CHI
10.
PIT
  1. Bertuzzi, Tyler
Additional Details:
I think Bertuzzi would be a great 3rd line winger. Acquire Domi to play 3C and you got a pretty good 3rd line with whoever you put on the other wing. Bertuzzi also brings a more physical edge to his game that the Pens team lacks. He can certainly play in the top 6 as well. I don't think he would cost too much, but again Hextall would be making a trade with Yzerman.

Henrique is scoring at the same pace 5v5 as Horvat over the past 3 years

He can play anywhere up and down the lineup at C and LW, PK, PP, leadership, proven winner at multiple levels (OHL, Mem Cup, WJC Silver, WHC Gold), stanley cup final experience.

Henrique without half a season of retention is the definition of a player that gets a 1st at the deadline, now add on a year and a half retention and you can see where Im going

It makes too much sense to include Kapanen in a Boeser deal and Boeser is still on pace for like 60 points in a down year. From the outside it seems like they trust Blueger and Carter and if one of Rust, Rakell or Boeser is playing on that line it only strengthens the team.

I think any team that pays a 1st for Henrique will regret it.

No doubt, I guess what I meant was that I wouldn't want the Penguins to give up a 1st for him. If we're giving up a first, I want that player to be a bit younger. But I guess it doesn't really matter because Henrique certainly helps now.

It for sure appears that they trust them, and I hate it. They need a 3C over Boeser, but if Boeser continues to improve then I would not mind him at all. I just don't want us to be stuck with his cap if he under performs. It's a risk to trade for him, but the payout is high if it works out.

100% there would be better targets for the pens, with how their roster is constructed giving up a first for a player thats in his mid-thirties would be a mis-step. Teams with younger cores like the Devils, Leafs, etc... would be better fits for giving up a 1st for 50% retained Henrique.

If I was Hextall my targets for giving up my first would be: (no order) Meier, Barbashev, Chychurn, Gavrikov and mayyyybe Bertuzzi but im not sold on moving a 1st for him
