Holl has a very high ceiling, we saw numerous times this year with injuries that he can step up and be a #2 Defensive D but he is also inconsistent and can struggle to even play like an NHL D at times. He is valuable to a team like Winnepeg or anyone else trying to get a 3RD who can kill penalities and elevate some defensive responsibility from their top guys. Toronto doesn't need that, we need someone like McCabe who can sit beside Gio in a shutdown pair or stick pack and let Sandin do his thing offensively.

Staal is also a sneaky good pickup. If we want O'Reilly in the top 6 then Staal is a better 3C than Accari or Kampf who are really just 4th liners. If we run O'Reilly as a 3C then we can sit him and run forward lines of

Bunting/Matthews/Nylander
Jarnkrok/Tavares/Marner
Kerfoot/O'Reilly/Engvall
ZAR/Accari/Kampf

Those lines all have an identity and can run deeper than having O'Reilly in the top 6.

The lines as they are tho with Staal give good depth scoring.
