Description
53 goals in 179 games while playing for the Habs places Anderson tied for 91st amongst forwards, which is meh at best, but that minus-43 is bottom-10, which is downright awful.

Anderson will have four more seasons left on his contract where Montreal will be paying a total salary of $23.5M (almost $6M/season) with a cap-hit of $5.5M.

That said, he has a lot of attributes the Sabres like speed, skill and high-level compete as well as something Buffalo could use more of--size.

This may be an overpay for a guy who set a career high four years ago when he went for 27+20 in his only full season of play.

I still go back to the thought that the problem with Anderson is less his production and more his contract - if he was a guy with 2 years left, or with a cap hit closer to $4M, I think he becomes a really desirable asset. But when you take him at his full $5.5M cap hit, it gets to be too much.

To put it in perspective: There are 34 forwards who have played a game this year with a cap hit between $5.5M and $6M. Before tonight's game, Josh Anderson is 33rd out of those 34 names in points per game, ahead of only Milan Lucic. Even if you focus on goal scoring, he's tied for 14th out of those same 34 with Jason Zucker. That cap hit just is too much for what he brings to the table, and that's before you get to the assumed asking cost Montreal has on him.

Not a first, but it normally involves a silly amount of retention and/or talking him down before presenting an underwhelming offer. This is no exception.

Being in the top 100 in goals isnt meh that makes ypu a top line goal scorer.....

And using +- is a stupid metric for a team that has used 6 goalies in the last 2 years 4 of which arent currently on a nhl roster
