Glad you mentioned that. Leafs fans hate their own so much. So the Leafs acquired upcoming UFA Accarli who has one point, a goal in nine games. His last three playoffs years, zero points, minus eight in 19 playoff games.

There's a reason though. Engvall and players like him and Kerfoot are doomed to be hated in Leafs land for one simple reason: they're bottom 6 players who aren't physical (worse for Engvall who is big, so it feels like a bigger slap in the face to some). While Engvall is actually quite effective defensively, he doesn't do it with snarl and physicality. So a huge part of Leafs fans take that to mean he sucks. A small part of leafs fandom will hate anyone who isn't physical (see Phil Kessel). But a larger part will accept a top 6 forward who isn't physical, but a bottom 6 forward has to be in their eyes. So guys like Kerfoot and Engvall who are actually quite solid defensively, but do so with positioning, stick work, IQ and (for Kerfoot) speed, just suck to them.

More than half of the isles forwards lack the ability to skate with the puck and make a tape to tape pass, so it’s nice to have a player Who can execute those simple plays lol
