Description
I don't agree with this whole "re-tool" thing, but it's the new reality for this team. Our window is now very short, so this needs to be aggressive to have any chance of working. Buying out OEL, along with trading Boeser and Myers creates immediate (and necessary) cap flexibility.

I'm not 100% confident of the UFA values, so there is still another 1.4m in cap space to adjust slightly as needed.

We should've blown it up. But we didn't. Here we are - this is my home run swing.

Trades
1.
VAN
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (FLA)
PHI
  1. Boeser, Brock
Additional Details:
Can be anybody. Flyers will have cap space and the UFA pool is not great. With no retention, the return won't be much.
2.
VAN
  1. 2023 7th round pick (CHI)
CHI
  1. Myers, Tyler ($3,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Helps Chicago hit the cap floor. Still not sure of Myers' value, it could be higher than this, or it may actually cost a pick to move him.

Like the ideas but don’t like the free agent signings. Think this team needs to spend less and trust the young guys more. Maybe one of two depth PK guys like Motte or Hathaway for cheap, but Aman and Joshua have been good. Mikkola is no better than Wolanin, Rathbone, or Brisebois. Garland would probably get dealt before Boeser.

Appreciate the response. I'm not 100% sold on these FA's being the solution and wouldn't be opposed to having some of the younger guys take bigger roles.

We have a huge hole to plug at 3C, and there aren't many attractive options available. Maybe we could go the trade route there.

We're also in desperate need of upgrades in the top-4 at LD and RD. Thankfully there are actually several FA options there who would be a huge upgrade over Myers and OEL. Gavrikov, Graves, Mayfield, Severson, Soucy, etc. Lots of combinations that could work.

Myers definitely costs the Canucks a pick to move to the Hawks. And the Hawks already have Jones, Murphy and Zaitsev under contract for next season on the right side, so there's really no fit anyway

Hmm well scratch the Hawks off that list then. We'll have to find another sucker, er, trade partner.

Now that we have Hronek, our right side is no longer the issue. We have Bear, Hronek, Juulsen, Johansson, possibly the return of Luke Schenn. The left side needs work. Outside of Hughes and Wolanin, we need a serious top 4 LHD that can play big defensive minutes. I think Graves is perfect

As for the 3C I am hopeful that Aman can keep growing along with Raty but for the next one or two years, we need a guy that's not gonna break the bank.
