You traded away arguably the most gifted goal scorer the franchise has ever had for a defensive C, a middle of the pack 2nd rounder and a FUTURE middle of the pack first rounder. And you retained near half his salary. Beyond awful return.

You then managed to spend money on a guy just because of his name, and you're still tight against the cap with a 20 man roster.

Awful.

Who did I sign just because of his name? The matthews trade only happens if he doesn't want to extend. No reason to keep him and lose him for nothing

Exactly but this would be a good package for nylander or tavares maybe. Matthews especially scince youre retaining, danault ,byfeild AT LEAST 2 solid prospects 2-3 1sts 2 seconds a 3rd an a 4th. this is reasonable especially when you go back and look at the ror trade we gave up a 1st 2nd 3rd 4th gaudete and a prospect for ror at 75% retained accari and a prospect please reconsider posting this
