Description
Looking back at this trade, it was a huge mistake for the current rebuilding process the Hawks are trying to do.

In retrospective, who won that trade?

(For clarifications: those are not lines I would line up)

The only real piece that's the issue is that they could have had Jones for nothing if they waited 1 year. The Hawks were going to be the highest bidder with that contract anyway. This way they could have had Jiricek. He's looking to be real good. No issues with Boqvist being gone nor missing out on Sillinger.

Yeah. In hindsight, I don't care about losing Boqvist too much. But, Jiricek definitely would've been nice to have. With Sillinger, it's less about him specifically and more so about all of the players we could have drafted with that pick... Coronato, Rosen, Othmann, Bolduc, Lucius, Wallstedt, Lysell, Bourgault, Johnston, Samoskevich, etc. Or, if they really wanted to trade that pick, they could've probably packaged it with something else and got a really good roster player or a high end NHL ready prospect.

I hear ya. I guess from my perspective...I honestly wanted Sillinger with that pick. Sooo, it's a bit hard for me to make the argument. With that said I 100% believe Jarmo is ruining this kid. Shoulda stayed in Juniors an extra year. Yet another example of why teams shouldn't send the draft year picks to the NHL right away.

Sillinger is a huge point of contention for our fanbase. He absolutely earned the spot out of training camp in fall 2021. But it easy to see him getting overwhelmed by mid year. In hindsight, they should’ve sent him to World Juniors and then Cleveland (as he was drafted out of the USHL he didn’t have to go back to juniors, although Medicine Hat owned his rights so he theoretically could have). He’s given quotes already about how happy he is in Cleveland right now, between getting to play with his brother and also because it’s just a relief.

Thats good to hear, I like him and hope he can make it work and become a mainstay in the NHL.
