From Boston's perspective: McAvoy might end up better than Doughty. No doubt he will be better offensively and he is not a liability on defense. It would be great to shed Beleskey's cap but no one wants to pay a guy 7m until he's 36. It's practically trading 2 first round picks, a future top 5 d-man and a pick for a current top five d-man. Not worth it in my book.

It's a pretty big stretch to say McAvoy will be a top-5 defenseman. He'll be good, and probably a legit top-pairing guy, but top-5 in the league? Doughty has been arguably the BEST defenseman in the league over the last four years. I think the trade is pretty fair.

That's a big no from Boston. It's a steep price for a little over a year of Doughty. Bruins fans saw a glimpse of what McAvoy is capable of in the playoffs when he was arguably our best d-man and we'd rather have McAvoy.
