The main advantage I see for the Canucks is surrounding Boeser/Dahlen/Pettersson with the best pieces possible, aware of the salary cap, in 2-3 years.
Also had a bit of fun bringing Vancouver players back, and letting Hamhuis + Bieksa retire as Canucks.
The Canucks don't need to make any of these trades to get to the same place. We'll probably have the right prospects in place at the current pace of draft+development, but this would give some more certainty of who the new young Cs and Ds would be and that they're ready on time.
Why trade Horvat? I'm a big fan of Jost, Steel, Barzal -- Horvat ends up being the oldest, and most expensive at that time.
Ottawa trade? Redundant players again. Turris is 27 and only 3.5 next season. Had to make cap space and roster space.
Remember, not shown are the guys posted in the AHL.
Bieksa + Hamuis? 1 year left each, and in 2 years Edler's contract is up too. Canucks shouldn't need that cap space for anything else, and they're probably uniquely the place B+H would waive their ironclad NMCs for.
Colorado? They go from 31st to 20th in one trade without trading away their future. They have Mackinnon + Compher as their top 2, this puts their other Cs to work. Nikita Tryamkin returns from Russia in 2 years and they win the trade by a landslide
